In 2018 the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a report revealing the potential dangers of plastic for children. They recommended using stainless steel.
Dr. Manasa Mantravadi, a board-certified pediatrician, mom of 3 young kids and an Indian immigrant ... grew up using stainless steel at the dining table. After making the mistake of buying plastic dinnerware - her mother stepped in concerned about the dangers of plastics. Grandma soon replaced the cupboards with traditional Indian steel dishes. 5 years later, the AAP backed grandma's concerns with science, publishing that certain chemicals and additives may interfere with a child's hormones and growth. Discussing this policy statement with her fellow pediatrician moms, Dr. Mantravadi quickly realized there were no great options for parents. So, Ahimsa was born – a perfect mix of her love for children, background in medicine and Indian heritage.
As a pediatrician, Manasa understood child behavior and development. She knew she had to excite kids at the dining table so she turned to science, combining chemistry and physics to change the color of metal itself! No harmful chemicals or additives that would chip, peel or leach - creating the first and only colorful stainless steel dinnerware for children. Now kids across the country are in love - requesting only their Ahimsa dishes at meals and nudging their parents to fill up each compartment! Who knew kids could be so excited about dinnerware?!
